Breaking Wave Theatre Company (BWTC) proudly presents Stellaluna and Other Tales, with book and lyrics by Allyn Cardarelli and Music by Steve Goers, a production put together by the participants of our Summer Theatre Camp. We invite audiences of all ages, including families, to join us and enjoy this production by our young something or other. The show Stellaluna and Other Tales will run on July 27 and 28 at 7:00 PM at the University of Guam Fine Arts Theatre.

Based on the work of Janell Cannon, Stellaluna and Other Tales is a delightful musical that appeals to all ages and features familiar characters from loved stories. In the musical, Stellaluna the bat, Verdi the snake and Pinduli the hyena all seek refreshment at a watering hole one hot day, only to be bullied by a lion. Through sharing stories with each other about building self-confidence, the three animals find wisdom, peace and friendship.

Similarly, campers had the same kind of experience during the 5-week Summer Theatre Camp led by camp director Troy McVey and a staff of BWTC members and UOG Theatre alumni and students. During Summer Theatre Camp, each camper has been able to learn about and fully experience each stage of production as well as cultivate important skills such as confidence, communication and collaboration that they can use in all aspects of their lives.

“I grew up doing theatre and I think it’s instrumental in building me into the person that I am today and being able to express myself and making friends and finding a sense of belonging at a young age,” said Jayna Shoda Meyer, the Assistant Camp Director, noting the way that the campers have grown through their experiences and skills they learned at camp. “I think it’s instrumental at a young age to have exposure to an art form that cultivates community building and expression and confidence.”

Stellaluna and Other Tales is a production that features the skills and work of the campers, from the front of the stage to behind it. Be sure not to miss it!

Tickets for the show will be cash only at the door. General Admission is $10.00 and Family Admission is $20.00.
