University of Guam Theatre and Breaking Wave Theatre Company proudly present

CHamoru Play Festival

The festival brings together six works by CHamoru playwrights to celebrate the lives and stories of the CHamoru people from the past, present and future. Running in repertory, each play in the festival will be performed twice over the course of two weekends.  The overall festival and plays by Peter R. Onedera are directed by Troy McVey.  Pieces by AD Roberto are directed by Ean Taijeron. Dakota Camacho’s performance is self directed.

FINDING FAMILY

Thursday, February 23 and Saturday, March 4

February 23 and March 4 will feature Astaki i Ittemo (Until the End) by Peter R. Onedera, a full length play that follows the journey of Mr. Quidachay as he navigates life apart from CHamoru culture and family while aging  among strangers who become family.

BEING CHAMORU

Friday, February 24 and Friday, March 3

A collection of short plays fill out February 24 and March 3 — Thick Skin and Creating the Native by Saipan based playwright AD Roberto call up contemporary questions of identity, while Hinenggen Antigu Siha (Ancient Beliefs) by Peter R. Onedera follows the stories of iconic CHamoru men and women who have done the hard and rewarding work of maintaining their culture and community throughout a complex history.

THERE AND BACK AGAIN

Saturday, February 25 and Thursday, March 2

Finally, February 25 and March 2 will feature a performance art piece by Dakota Camacho titled MALI’E’ • Tåno’ Uchan. Bold and elemental, Camacho’s piece draws on his CHamoru heritage and hip hop performance background. These nights will also feature a final piece from AD Roberto, Adahi i Chalan, a surreal and compelling look at death and separation
